Get Involved / As an Educator
Whatever age group you're working with First Light Movies has something for you!
If you are teaching a group of young people aged between five and 18-years-old and would like to extend your classroom activities to include filmmaking; approach a particularly difficult topic in a creative and fun way that can involve a group of varying abilities; or if you would like to improve social skills and behavior within a group of young people why not make a film?
With First Light Movies funding young people's ideas and dreams can become reality. Click here for more information about our funding and application process or click here to find out what the benefits of filmmaking are for young people.
Are you working within the PRIMARY EDUCATION sector?
First Light Movies is responsible for developing a unique new website www.filmstreet.co.uk designed to engage primary-aged children with the joys of film. Film Street is packed with interactive activities, movie-making ideas and advice that you can utilise in your classroom.
The site introduces the concepts of cineliteracy to children and aims to embed these in the school curriculum. Film Street encourages expression through filmmaking and shows how it can be used as a tool to support development in other areas of learning. Filmmaking helps children develop their creative, team working and technical skills, and enables children to communicate through a media that transcends barriers in literacy, language and cultural background.
Film Street was commissioned by Culture Online, part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and was developed by First Light Movies, the UK young people’s filmmaking initiative, in partnership with CBBC, the British Film Institute, the UK Film Council and Creative Partnerships.
Film Street is a great educational resource; the interactive activities can be explored online on your interactive whiteboard and downloads can be used as follow up activities. Log on today and see for yourself at www.filmstreet.co.uk.
We hope that you enjoy exploring Film Street and use it to bring the magic of film into your classroom!
