About Us
Welcome to First Light Movies Online
First Light Movies funds and inspires film projects with five to 19-year-olds throughout the UK.
Since launching in 2001, we have enabled over 12,000 budding young filmmakers to write, act, shoot, light, direct and produce over 800 films. Working with filmmakers and organisations, First Light Movies films cover a diverse range of topics and genres, and make use of accessible digital film technology.

Mediabox
First Light Movies is the lead organisation, alongside the Media Trust, the UK Film Council and Skillset, of a new youth initiative called Mediabox, funded by £6 million from the Department for Children, Schools and Families. Mediabox offers 13 to 19-year-olds, in England, the opportunity to develop and produce creative media projects including film, television, radio and online platforms.
First Light Movies Research
First Light Movies conducted some research into the many benefits of the scheme. Annabel Jackson analysed the reports written by funded organisations and by project mentors written between August 2003 and July 2004. The report also contained five in-depth case studies - download the report on the right hand side of this page.
